Sometimes we build a custom amp for an artist that is so good that we have to offer it to everyone. This is how the Luca became a Bad Cat standard. Touring guitarist Jeffrey Kunde wanted a simple single channel preamp based on the 12AX7 side of the Black Cat. We combined this top boost circuit with a pair of EL34s running in class A at 40 watts for maximum headroom.

The control panel consists of the classic Bad Cat preamp: volume, five-way selector, bass, treble, cut and a master volume that can be switched out of the circuit. The Luca is built on a 12AX7 platform with all of the articulate mid-range punch that will cut through any mix. Think of it as an extended version of channel one of the Black Cat 40. The Luca offers a switch between the five-way tone selector and a tube-buffered bass and treble tone stack, a feature not found on the Black Cat's channel one.
